Community Services-AIDS Services and Prevention - $64,750

  • AIDS Services for the Monadnock Region, Keene, NH - $10,000 Provides social services and HIV/AIDS education including HIV testing, life skill assessment, special needs services, outreach to disenfranchised and “street kids”, and opportunities for artistic expression on HIV/AIDS issues.

  • Boston Human Rights Institute, dba Search for a Cure, Boston, MA - $10.000 - Publishes “Reasons for Hope” free to 40+ community based newspapers and on the WWW, providing up-to-date information on HIV/AIDS treatment.

  • Fraternity House, Inc., Escondido, CA - $7,500
    Provides volunteer support and transportation as part of Rehabilitation Activities Program for residents.

  • Mobile AIDS Support Services, Mobile, AL - $10,000
    Provides social support to over 2,500 people living with HIV/AIDS and prevention education to over 22,000 people living in rural Alabama.

  • Santa Fe cares, Santa Fe, NM - $5,000
    Grant provides limited support for housing, utilities, auto repair/insurance and medical expenses not covered by other programs to 65-70 people annually in northern New Mexico.

  • Selma AIDS Information and Referral, Selma, AL - $3,500
    Grant used to underwrite display of AIDS Memorial Quilt.

  • The Living Room, Fresno, CA - $10,000
    Operates HIV/AIDS community “drop-in center” and houses several HIV/AIDS service providers, reaching 400-500 people annually.

  • David's House, Compassion, Inc., Toledo, OH - $8,500
    Grant provides HIV/AIDS education, peer training and empowerment to GLTB and questioning youth (ages 13-24) in NW Ohio.

Community Services-Other $30,000

  • Prideline Youth Services, Miami, FL - $10,000
    Grant helps provide a “safe space” for GLBT and questioning youth (ages 13-22).

  • Resource Center of Dallas, Dallas, TX - $10,000 
    Grant funds pilot program providing social and support services to gay and lesbian victims of domestic violence, including overnight shelter for gay male victims, emergency dental services, HIV testing and STD screening and treatment for victims of domestic same-sex violence.

  • The Walt Whitman Community School, Dallas, TX - $10,000
    A private secondary school serving GLBT and questioning youth who have experienced harassment, discrimination, physical assault, and threats in other academic environments.

 

Research and Public Education - $40,000

  • American Psychological Association - $10,000
    Grant provides funding to publish finding of an international conference titled: “Sexual Orientation, Human Rights and Mental Health: Toward a Global Psychology”.

  • GLSEN/Miami, Miami, FL - $10,000
    Grants helps fund “Safe Schools Project” which increases understanding for educators, students, and the community on issues of sexual minority and how those issues effect the learning environment for those students and others.

  • "Oliver Button is a Star” - $20,000
    A docu-performance for PBS television based on the children's book “Oliver Button is a Sissy” adapted and performed by the Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus, in Minnesota.

 

Scholarship Awards - $2,000

  • The Robin McDonald Scholarship ($1,000) was given to Marcus Bidell at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

  • The Richard Karpawich Research and Education Award ($1,000) was given to Jamie McKinn and Debbie Robinson at the University of Pittsburgh.
