This project is an expansion of the
Counseling, testing and referral program of AIDS
Resource Center Ohio (ARC Ohio). The service area has
expanded from 31 to 36 counties. The ARC counseling,
testing and referral program also emphasizes education
for those engaging in high-risk behaviors and referral
to/linkage between HIV- positive persons and the
continuum of care, including diagnostic services,
healthcare and supportive services. This is the second
GMF grant to Aids Resource Center Ohio.
Catskill Rural AIDS

This grant focuses on reducing problems of isolation faced
by people living with HIV in rural areas. Services include
frequent congregate meals and outings, workshop/retreats,
internet fee subsidies and transportation to
program-sponsored events, shopping and to medical
appointments. This is their third GMF grant.
Fraternity House

Funding from Gamma Mu Foundation will support the
Rehabilitation Activities Program (RAP) of Fraternity House
for men and women disabled by AIDS. In particular, the grant
supports the RAP transportation program, which provides the
residents of Fraternity House and Michaelle House with more
than 1,500 trips throughout the year. Fraternity House helps
the residents to rebuild their health and regain their
highest possible level of independence. This is their
seventh GMF grant.
Rosehedge: AIDS Housing & Health

Rosehedge operates the only Enhanced Assisted Care Program
in King County, Washington, serving a small, yet critical
niche within the AIDS Housing Continuum of Care,
specializing in the care of individuals who do not require
24-hour nursing care, but still require a high degree of
supervision because of mental health issues, substance abuse
histories, and/or AIDS dementia. This is Rosehedge’s first
GMF grant.
Vermont Cares

Vermont Cares provides support targeted toward the GLBTQ
community for HIV+ individuals to reduce isolation and
improve quality of life, as well as HIV prevention efforts
including counseling and testing, HIV prevention materials
and education to stop the spread of HIV. This is the first
GMF grant for them.

This grant funds AFFIRM’s Community Awareness Initiative
project. The project’s goal is to create change in
hostile environments and to increase the acceptance,
visibility and understanding of LGBTQ youth. This is
AFFIRM’s second GMF grant.
Equality Virginia Education

The mission of the Equality Virginia Education Fund (EVEF)
is to change the legal, social, and employment climate
for GLBT Virginians by educating Virginian voters and
legislators and mobilizing them to take action on behalf
of equal rights. The purpose of this grant is to
continue the development and expansion of volunteer
Community Action Teams (CATs) across rural and urban
Virginia. The CATs are key components of a program to
bring about positive change in the legal, social, and
employment climate for GLBT people throughout Virginia.
This is the second GMF grant for EVEF.
New England Network for Child,

New England Network, through its Reach Out Initiative,
helps rural-based New England youth service providers to
meet the needs of “out-of-home” LGBTQ youth through
providing assessments, training, and technical
assistance. This grant will enable New England Network
to expand and enhance its technical assistance,
follow-up, and evaluation in order to lead to needed
institutional changes in the policies of, and conditions
in, agencies that serve out-of-home LGBTQ youth. This is
this organization’s third GMF grant.
Sunshine Social Services, Inc/Sunserve

Grant funds will be used in establishing The Meeting
Place which targets families struggling with the
difficult issues raised by their children who are
questioning their sexual orientation, especially
families of children with serious emotional disorders.
The program brings parents into peer support groups and
gathers their children into similar groups for the
purpose of support, education, and the establishment of
a new level of communication. This is Sunserve’s first
GMF grant.
We Are Family

This grant helps support and expand We Are Family’s peer
support group, Safe Space, which reaches out to GLBT
youth and their parents. Other services include meetings
for young adults, community panel discussions and a
speakers’ bureau. This is the fifth GMF grant for We Are
Family.

Alliance for Full Acceptance

Grant amount: $10,000
This grant helps support the Alliance for Full
Acceptance Media Campaign throughout South Carolina. The
funds will enable expansion of billboards and television
ad time plus a quarterly 30-minute television show
highlighting advances in the GLBT community and
advocating better understanding and reduction in
ignorance and fear about GLBT issues. As the highest
rated proposal in this category, Alliance for Full
Acceptance received the Richard Karpawich Research and
Public Education Award for 2004-2005. This is the third
GMF grant to Alliance for Full Acceptance.

This grant supports the Florida Safe Schools Project
that provides teacher training of gay, lesbian, bisexual
and transgender issues in non-urban areas of the State
of Florida By providing educators with proven training
and resources, these educators learn how best to
intervene and prevent GLBT student harassment and
discrimination. This is GLSEN/Miami’s third GMF grant.

awarded the Robin McDonald Memorial Scholarship.

University of Oregon
Scholarship: $1,000
Jonathan R. Flojo’s research proposal, entitled “Disclosure,
Identity, and Hetersexism: LGB Minority Stressors in the
Workplace” has been awarded the Aileen and Cliff Pettit
Memorial Scholarship.
James Pautz
Pursuing degree in both women gender
and sexuality studies and Brazilia studies
Harvard University
Scholarship: $1,000
James Pautz is this year’s recipient of the Art Huskey Gamma
Mu Scholarship which is awarded annually by the Gamma Mu
Foundation to a deserving gay male is good scholastic
standing. The award is coordinated through the
Philanthrofund Foundation of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
