Gamma Mu Foundation 20th Anniversary and
2008 Summer Board Meeting & Retreat - July 18/20
The Foundation will be celebrating it 20th
anniversary during the 2008 summer board meeting and
active fellows retreat being held this year at John
Chapman and Steve Champion's Cloverly Ranch in
Hailey, Idaho (Sun Valley) July 18/20, 2008. The
best and most direct way to get to Sun Valley is to
go to Salt Lake City and take Sky West (a Delta
Connection) directly to the Sun Valley Airport,
which is only two miles from the Ranch. Other
alternatives are to fly to Boise, rent a car and
enjoying the scenic 2 1/2 hours to the Ranch. A
drive from Salt Lake City to the Ranch will take
about 5 hours. Lodging has been arranged at two
hotels near the ranch. Wood River Inn (877-542-0600)
has a King bedded room for $116 and a double Queen
bedded room for $126 per night. The AmericInn in
Hailey (208-788-7950) has just a couple of rooms
still available. Book directly and get your
confirmation number.

There will be an informal get-together on
Thursday evening for those arriving early. The
Grants Committee will meet at 9:00 AM on Friday
morning. The full Board meeting will start on Friday
afternoon and carry through to Saturday morning
leaving the afternoon open to enjoy Sun Valley. John
and Steve will entertain everyone on Friday night
with cocktails and a ranch dinner. Saturday night we
are making plans for dinner and the special show at
the Sun Valley Lodge.
The Foundation Board of Directors holds three
formal meetings each year. One is at each of the
Gamma Mu fly-ins. The third is a summer planning
session during which the Board assesses the health
and welfare of the Foundation, makes adjustments to
the Strategic Plan and approves grant recipients for
the coming year. The Gamma Mu Foundation is
incorporated in Florida as a not-for-profit
corporation. In accordance with our by-laws, each
Cliff Pettit Fellow (“CPF”) becomes a member of the
corporation for one year from the qualifying
donation. In order to maintain their Active
membership, all CPFs must make a minimum annual
contribution of $150.
As in any corporation, the membership is expected
to assist the Board of Directors in determining its
future. The best way to do this is to participate in
the Board’s decision process. This is especially
true of the summer planning session where the Grants
Committee assesses each of that year’s grant
proposals. These proposals are received by June 1st
from the various charities requesting financial
support from the Foundation. Then a CD containing
instructions, an evaluation form and proposal
documents is prepared and sent out to those Active
Fellows who have volunteered to review the grant
proposals. As the first business of the summer
planning session, the group of reviewers meets,
compares the individual assessments and selects
those organizations it recommends receiving a
Foundation grant. All Active Fellows are invited to
participate in this review process as well as to
participate in the planning session. It is only
through such active support and participation that
the Board can succeed in leading the Foundation
forward.
Please understand that participation in the
grants review process does not necessarily require
you to attend the session in Sun Valley. You can
still receive the materials on CD, complete your
review and forward your completed evaluation to the
Grants Committee chairman.
If you would be willing to review the grant proposals
and/or participate in the summer meeting, please email the
Foundation at
info@gammamufoundation.org and indicate how you wish to
participate.
